I think the main reason why self-described geeks are throwing a fit over the iPad is that it's a shiny new toy that's not meant for them.
Anyone deserving of the nerd or geek moniker should see the potential in a device like the iPad, especially if they have family. Ask yourself, "How many hours of tech support have I done over holidays?"
