Remember when Google announced their behavioral tracking feature for their ads (or as they call it "interest-based advertising") a few months back? No? Well, go read up on it and come back... I'll wait.

Back? Okay. I decided to see what they thought about my internet surfing habits. Currently, this is what Google thinks I'm interested in:

Computers & Electronics - Enterprise Technology - Data Management

Computers & Electronics - Programming - Scripting Language

Computers & Electronics - Software - Internet Software - Internet Clients & Browser

Computers & Electronics - Software - Operating Systems - Mac

Entertainment - Music

Entertainment - Music - Rock & Pop

Internet - Web Design & Development

Social Networks & Online Communities - Blogging Resources & Services

Telecommunications - Mobile & Wireless - Mobile Phones

Or to summarize: I'm a developer, building social networking sites on a Mac, listening to music (mostly of the "rock" genre) with an interest in mobile phones.

That's... about right. You can check what Google thinks about you in your ad preferences.1

That's also where you can opt out, you paranoid privacy freak. ↩
